Baltimore, MD - Mar. 19, 2024  - The Maryland House of Delegates passed a bill - introduced by Delegate Dalya Attar - to restructure the state’s hate crimes commission amid controversy over a member's incendiary social media posts. Originally aimed at removing the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) from the commission, the bill was amended to give the attorney general discretion over appointments. Jewish community advocates support the amended bill. The bill now awaits passage in the Maryland Senate.
