Horrifying video of anti-Jewish bias: Yesterday, the Ways and Means Committee in the Maryland General Assembly heard testimony for a Holocaust Education bill. An individual named Ayo Kimathi testified against the bill.

Annapolis, MD - Feb. 1, 2024  - (WMAR2News) A controversial bill, HB71, aimed at providing grants to schools for Holocaust education and materials, faced strong opposition during discussions. Critics expressed concerns, with one individual suggesting that it would be "treasonous" for Black lawmakers to support the bill, as they believed the real Holocaust was the suffering of Black people in America over centuries. Another questioned the accuracy of the 6 million death count for Jewish victims in the Holocaust.

Delegate Mark Edelson, the bill's sponsor, presented data from a recent nationwide survey on Holocaust knowledge. The survey revealed troubling statistics, such as 10% of young Americans not believing the Holocaust happened, 11% thinking Jews were responsible for it, and in Maryland, 13% held that belief. Furthermore, 23% believed that the Holocaust was either a myth or exaggerated.

In response to the first in-person opponent's objections, Delegate Dalya Attar asked whether this testimony underscored the necessity of the bill for Holocaust education.
