Baltimore, MD - Aug. 17, 2025 - State documents obtained detail the timeline of the Johns Hopkins Hospital diesel fuel spill.
The documents also reveal new safety measures the hospital must now put in place. The investigation into the spill is still ongoing, reports indicate.
Some of the seven state reports reveal concerns about equipment, a lack of documentation and mandated preventive measures that still aren’t fully in place.
According to the documents, the hospital asked Shipley Energy Transport, LLC to deliver 7,000 gallons of diesel fuel to one tank, and 7,000 gallons to another. The tank field cannot be seen from the location of the fill area.
One report shows the hospital did not have a tank gauge stick onsite to verify readings of the tank, w...

BaltimoreJewishLife.com (BJL) is proud to partner with STAR-K CERTIFICATION that realizes that there is no substitute for a person’s own Rav. In an effort to offer a possible solution, it has launched its Institute of Halachah as a public service. Over the years, the agency’s Kashrus Hotline has answered generic halachic questions from kosher consumers the world over, including inquiries regarding the kosher status of foods and certified Sabbath mode appliances. The formation of a separate official division within STAR-K testifies to the need for addressing these issues.
The Institute of Halachah is directed by HaRav Mordechai Frankel, under the guidance of HaRav Moshe Heinemann, STAR-K’s Rabbinic Administrator. It is an invaluable resource for a diverse array of rabbis to discuss general halachic matters, as well as gain access to source materials for shiurim and answers to congregants’ questions.

Wshington, D.C. - Aug. 17, 2025 - When Pete Buttigieg was asked a question about Israel and Gaza this week on “Pod Save America,” the former transportation secretary and possible 2028 presidential contender answered in a way that matched many Democrats’ stances on Israel: broadly supportive of the U.S.-Israel relationship while sharply critical of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his role in the humanitarian crisis.
But after facing a barrage of attacks on social media from progressives and anti-Israel activists, Buttigieg did an about face and gave in to critics, telling Politico on Thursday that he would have supported recent Senate resolutions seeking to block certain arms sales to Israel and that he would recognize a Palestinian state as part of ...
During the Second Temple, the Greek empire reigned (over Israel),1 and they (the Greeks) passed decrees against the Jews and (tried) to erase their religion, and did not allow them to carry out Torah (study) or the commandments. They put their hands on their property and their daughters. They entered the Temple, destroyed and made the pure unclean. The Jews were in great distress because of them and were much oppressed, until the G-d of their fathers had mercy on them, delivering them from their hands and saving them. Then overcame, the sons of the Hasmonean High Priest, (the Greeks) and killed them and saved the Jews from their hands. They appointed a king from the Priests, and the kingdom of Israel was restored for more than 200 years until the destruction of (the) second (Temple). When the Jews overcame their enemies and destroyed them, it was the 25th of Kislev2 when they entered the Sanctuary (inner room) and did not find pure (olive) oil in the Temple, except one jar sealed with seal of the High Priest, and it did not contain enough to light except for one day only. But they lit from it the lamps of the Menorah3 for eight days, until they could crush olives and produce a (new quantity) of pure oil. For these reasons, decreed the Sages of that generation that these eight days that begin on the 25th Kislev, will be days of joy and praise. One lights on them lamps at evening at the entrance to the houses, every evening of the eight nights to show off and demonstrate the miracle. These days are called ''Hanukah'' that is to say ''they rested'' (chanu) on the ''25'' ('th of the month) because on the 25th they rested from their enemies. and also because of those days they (re)-dedicated the house (Temple) which their foes had defiled. Also some say that it is a commandment to increase slightly the festive meals on Hanukah. Another reason is because the work of (building) the Sanctuary (in the desert) was completed in these days. One should tell one's children the story of the miracles that were done for our fore-fathers in those days, (see Josephus) However, these meals are not considered as part of the commandment unless one says at the meal songs of praise. One should increase charity in these Hanukah days, for this can help mend any defects in our souls. This charity, should be given particularly to poor Torah scholars. (KSA 139:1) 1) 352 BCE until 70 CE 2) 139 BCE 3) The Menorah was made of gold and had seven branches.

This morning (Sunday), families of hostages and members of the October Council protst movement launched a nationwide protest dubbed the "Day of Disruption," calling for a halt to daily life and the economy to pressure the government into securing the release of hostages and ending the ongoing war.
Demonstrations are taking place at around 400 locations across Israel, including outside the homes of ministers and Knesset members. Major roads have been blocked, including Route 1 toward Jerusalem and the Ra’anana Junction. Hundreds of vehicles have also left from Latrun in a convoy in an attempt to stop the war.
Noam Peri, whose father Chaim was killed in Hamas captivity, criticized the government’s inaction: "My father could have come home in a deal, but 'po...
Jerusalem, Israel - Aug. 16, 2025 – Rabbi Berel Wein, z'l, world-renowned Jewish historian, author, yeshiva founder, and towering Talmid Chacham, was niftar on Shabbos in Israel at the age of 91.Click here to watch a rebroadcast of the levayah
A gifted orator and scholar, Rabbi Wein left a lasting imprint on generations through thousands of recorded shiurim and lectures on Torah and Jewish history, first on cassette tapes and CDs, later reaching global audiences online.
Born in Chicago, he led Congregation Bais Torah and established Yeshiva Shaarei Torah in Monsey, New York, before settling in Jerusalem in 1997, where he served as mara d’asra of Beit Knesset Hanassi. Rabbi Wein also reshaped kosher supervision across North America during his leadership of the OU’s ...
The Orthodox Union joins with Klal Yisrael in mourning the loss of Rabbi Berel Wein, zt”l.
Rabbi Wein was a uniquely impactful Rav whose work, perspective, and voice profoundly influenced generations of Orthodox Jewry. Rabbi Wein would often note that when he received semicha to become a rabbi, Orthodoxy was in such a state of decline that a professional career in the Orthodox rabbinate was considered a pipe dream. Nevertheless, after a brief stint as a lawyer, Rabbi Wein embarked on a multi-faceted career as a rabbi and educator in America and Israel that spanned six decades and contributed significantly to Orthodoxy’s rebirth.
In 1964, at the age of 30, Rabbi Wein became the rabbi of Beth Israel Congregation in Miami Beach, and at 38 he became the executive Vice Presi...
The US State Department is halting all visitor visas for individuals from Gaza while it conducts "a full and thorough review of the process and procedures used to issue a small number of temporary medical-humanitarian visas in recent days," it said on Saturday.
The department said "a small number" of temporary medical-humanitarian visas had been issued in recent days but did not provide a figure.
The US issued more than 3,800 B1/B2 visitor visas, which permit foreigners to seek medical treatment in the United States, to holders of the Palestinian Authority travel document, according to an analysis of monthly figures provided on the department's website. That figure includes 640 visas issued in May.
The State Department's move to stop visitor visas for people from Gaza comes af...

Annapoils, MD - Aug. 16, 2025 - President Donald Trump slammed Maryland Gov. Wes Moore on Thursday, as a dispute over the National Guard’s role in crime suppression also escalated into a war of words with the leader of Baltimore’s police union — drawing national attention to the state’s public safety policies.
Speaking from the Oval Office during what was scheduled as a celebration of the 90th anniversary of Social Security, Trump was asked almost immediately about his crime crackdown and the use of the National Guard in Washington, D.C.
I heard this character they talk about him as a candidate. He’s got no chance, the governor of Maryland,” Trump said. “They say maybe he’ll be a president, but he’s not pres...
The Prime Minister's Office on Saturday evening clarified that the government’s policy regarding negotiations with Hamas is to pursue a comprehensive deal only, not partial agreements.
"We will agree to a deal in which all hostages are released in one go and in accordance with our terms for ending the war," the Prime Minister’s office said in a statement.
The stated conditions include: dismantling Hamas' weapons, demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, Israeli control over the security perimeter, and the establishment of an alternative governing entity in Gaza that is neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority, and that will live peacefully with Israel.
This clarification follows an interview given by Topaz Luk, a senior advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in whi...
President Donald Trump said he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Monday afternoon to discuss an agreement "which would end the war" between Russia and Ukraine.
The Truth Social post came about half a day after Mr. Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Mr. Trump said the meeting with Putin "went very well." "It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreem...

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP) — President Donald Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin shook hands warmly at the start of their Alaska summit on Friday before heading into hours of discussions that could reshape the war in Ukraine and relations between Moscow and Washington.
The leaders greeted each other on the tarmac at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, where officials erected a special stage, with a large “Alaska 2025” sign flanked by parked fighter jets and red carpets. Uniformed military members stood at attention nearby. B-2s and F-22s — military aircraft designed to oppose Russia during the Cold War — were flying over to mark the moment.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the previously planned one-on...
In 2015, a quiet street in Jerusalem was named for Moshe (Miklós) Krausz, a man whose extraordinary heroism during the Holocaust had gone largely unrecognized for decades. A Hungarian Jew and leader of the Palestine Office of the World Zionist Movement in Budapest, Krausz orchestrated one of the largest rescue operations of the Holocaust - saving at least 40,000 Jews, with some estimates as high as 100,000.
To appreciate the scale of his achievement, consider that Oskar Schindler - whose name is universally known - rescued 1,200 Jews. Yet Krausz’s story remained in the shadows. When he died in Jerusalem in 1986, it was in obscurity and without public acknowledgment of his heroism.
When the Nazis invaded Hungary in March 1944 and began deporting Jews to concentration camps, M...
