Baltimore, MD - Aug. 22, 2023 - Maryland's Department of Education has released standardized test scores, indicating a positive trend in student performance since the start of the pandemic, reports WBAL. English literacy proficiency rates are at a decade-high, particularly for 3rd to 8th graders, now at 47%. Math scores from the Comprehensive Assessment Program are also recovering, with the most significant gains observed in 3rd and 4th grades, each seeing a 4% increase. A significant number of students are nearing proficiency in both subjects. To support those still struggling, especially in grades 6-8, the department plans to allocate up to $10 million for a dedicated math tutoring system.
