In a bid to cut energy costs and lower its carbon footprint, Aldi, the German discount supermarket, plans to reduce the number of lights in all its stores, including over 2,300 in the US, reports Business Insider. The move follows a successful trial in which some lights were turned off in four stores. The decision aligns with Aldi's strategy of maintaining low prices through efficient frugality, and coincides with the introduction of more energy-efficient lighting in its locations. The company expects this to decrease energy consumption by around 10%. This step towards sustainability comes amid a rising cost of groceries and energy across the US and EU, partly influenced by the war in Ukraine.
