Moms-led Charidy.com campaign to relieve financial burden for Cheder Chabad’s families
Baltimore, MD -- Dec. 21, 2015 - After an extremely successful cyber fundraising campaign in 2014 – when families and staff joined together to raise more than 150% of their goal in one single day –the Cheder Chabad school is now fundraising $72,000 in just one day!
The Charidy campaign, which Cheder Chabad pioneered in Baltimore back in June of 2014, allows donors to ‘quadruple the impact of their donations.’ For every $1 given, the school’s scholarship fund receives $4 thanks to three groups of matchers who have committed to help reach the goal.
“As an expression of our ongoing commitment and dedication to Cheder Chabad, several members of the Board of Directors are privileged and honored to collectively represent over 50% of the sponsorships for the upcoming Charidy drive,” said Cheder Chabad’s Board President Rivka Hurwitz
Last time, the goal was quickly met within a couple hours and another donor helped match additional donations. Organizers are optimistic that once again, they will surpass their goal.
“The way we see it, the sky’s the limit,” said campaign coordinator Rikal Kaler, whose three daughters attend the Cheder.
The older students – Cheder Chabad provides quality Jewish and secular education for infants through middle school – are already doing their part to decorate the school with more than 1,000 bright orange paper airplanes to raise awareness of the campaign that culminates in a 24 hour cyber fundraising drive through Charidy.com on Wednesday, December 23, just in time for end-of-year charitable contributions.
The younger students are also getting excited as they cover their pushkas (charity boxes) with orange sleeves and try to contribute even more coins to their usual daily donation. Tzedaka, or charity, is a foundation of the Jewish Torah – so important that young and old are encouraged to give charity before and during prayer. Though he passed away 20 years ago, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, continues to inspire his followers to practice loving-kindness, as taught explicitly and through example by the dedicated teachers at Cheder Chabad.
Cheder Chabad, which boasts a hands-on and multi-sensory instruction to meet the needs of each individual student – has a total student body of 188 children, 75% of whom are granted scholarships designed so that no Jewish child should be denied a Jewish education for lack of funds. The money raised on December 23 will go directly into the scholarship fund to ensure that the school can continue to provide quality Torah and general studies education regardless of a family’s income bracket.
