Jerusaelm, Israel - Dec. 11, 2015 - Security units in Israel have been on high alert in recent weeks, men and women are out guarding and responding day and night, rain and cold.
A group of Orthodox Jews in the United States wanted to show their appreciation to those soldiers and police protecting Am Yisrael. To say thank you, the Coordinating Council for the Jewish Homeland, CCJH, based in the US, with the help of the Israeli Shevet Paamon volunteers have been arranging BBQs for thousands of the security personnel.
One BBQ was held on Hanukkah in the Old City, near Shaer Ashpot in the Archaeological center. Rabbi Pesach Lerner, a CCJH executive board member, was pleased with the open invitations and overwhelming response to the events. Rabbi Lerner mentioned that not only all who came to Old City were served, but over 300 hamburgers were sent to Hevron security personnel that evening.
Rabbi Eytan Feiner, whose shul in Far Rockaway is to sponsor the next BBQ in Bet El on December 13, lit the Hanukkiah and joined in the celebration
CCJH Executive board members Shlomo Mostofsky and Rabbi Jonah Gewirtz were not able to attend. However, Rabbi Gewirtz informed his granddaughters from Maryland who are in Israeli seminaries this year of the BBQ,and they were happy to represent the family at the Hanukkah celebration.
Police vans and MDA motorcycles arrived, one after another, for hours as hundreds of security personnel participated and enjoyed the CCJH BBQ.
