Baltimore, MD - Dec. 4, 2015 - On Tuesday evening December 8, Pikesville Jewish Congregation (PJC) will be hosting a community-wide Chanukah concert featuring Moshav Band at Moses Montefiore Anshe Emunah Greengate Jewish Center. The event is being generously sponsored by Dr. David and Suzy Liebman to benefit victims of terror in Israel during this latest onslaught of attacks across the country.

The evening begins at 7:00pm with a ceremonial, Carlebach-style candle lighting for the community, led by the Moshav Band, to open the concert. Latkes and sufganiyot (jelly donuts) will be served as well in the spirit of Chanukah.

“We are hoping that this concert will not only connect the Jewish community in Baltimore to our brothers and sisters in Israel during this protracted period of horrific attacks, but go a step further to provide meaningful, tangible support to the many victims and families still suffering”, said Donni Engelhart, President of PJC. “At the same time, it’s an opportunity for our community to celebrate Chanukah together with the Moshav Band bringing its trademark ruach. We light Chanukah candles to fulfill the mitzvah of pirsumei nisa – to publicize the miracle of Chanukah - in the darkness of night. Light will always trump darkness, and we demonstrate our joy and hope on Chanukah even as we feel the pain of our Israeli brethren in distress.”

Holly Vanderwalde, head of social programming at PJC, is Event Chair and coordinator: “PJC invites the entire Jewish community to attend the benefit concert and Chanukah celebration, and we are so encouraged to see the outpouring of support for this cause and the excitement to celebrate Chanukah with Moshav Band. We have all watched the situation in Israel deteriorate, with feelings of helplessness. We are not powerless though, and we invite the Baltimore Jewish community to be as generous as possible in its support of Israeli terror victims.”
