The Spring Valley Police Department has arrested a 14-year-old boy who threw stones Tuesday afternoon at a Jewish school bus in Monsey, an official with the Spring Valley Police Department told JP.
The incident happened Tuesday around 2:10 p.m. at 41 North Cole Avenue, when a bus from the Belz School exited their parking lot to take home the children. The suspect threw several stones at the bus as it made a left turn onto North Cole Avenue, in which one stone shattered a window and injured one 7-year-old boy, police said.
Hatzalah responded to the scene and treated the boy for minor injuries. In addition to Hatzalah’s response to the scene was Spring Valley Police, who interviewed the bus driver and several witnesses and were able to get a description of the suspect and arrested him later at night.
The ensuing police investigation resulted in today’s arrest of a fourteen year old juvenile subject. He was brought to the Spring Valley Police Department and turned over to a parent. The case was referred to Rockland County Probation due to the subject’s age, Spring Valley said in a statement.
“I want to thank the Spring Valley Police Department for taking this incident very serious and for apprehending the suspect so swiftly,” Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder said in a statement to JP. “I’m very concerned about the recent negative rhetoric against the Orthodox community. I call upon elected officials to do whatever they can to address this disturbing trend.”
