New York, NY - The manager of an Upper West Side Judaica store was struck in the face yesterday in an attack that is being treated by the NYPD as a hate crime.
Police said that a black man who entered West Side Judaica on Broadway at 1:15 PM identified himself as a Muslim and began shouting profanities. The manager of the store, who was dressed in what police termed “conservative Jewish attire” including a yarmulka, asked the man to leave the store.
The man complied with the manager’s request but remained outside the store on Broadway in a clearly agitated state.
When the manager exited the store and asked the man to leave, he shouted “I’ll kill all the Jews” and punched the manager once in the right eye before fleeing the scene, heading south towards 88th Street on a Razor scooter.
The 52 year old victim refused medical attention for his injuries.
Police said that the attacker, who is approximately 5’10 and in his twenties, was last seen wearing a red hooded jacket and blue jeans.
