A new Welcome Center at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is giving arriving travelers a convenient way to learn about Annapolis, Anne Arundel County and other destinations across Maryland. Located in Terminal A’s baggage claim area, the center provides travel information and resources to help visitors plan their stay.

The center’s interactive kiosk is available 24 hours a day, offering information even when staff are not on site. Destination experience associates are available daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist travelers.

The 500-square-foot space also highlights local art, with a custom mural by Annapolis artist Comacell Brown Jr. as its centerpiece. A rotating display featuring work by other Anne Arundel County artists is also planned.

Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County secured a 10-year agreement for the airport space and worked with BWI on the center’s design and construction. The project began in 2023 with a $50,000 grant from the Maryland Office of Tourism Development to fund a planning study. It later received a $100,000 Local Bond Initiative sponsored by state Sen. Pam Beidle and Delegate Mark Chang.

Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller joined Beidle, Chang and Anne Arundel County Councilwoman Allison Pickard at the opening ceremony. The officials presented citations recognizing the center’s opening and its role in the region’s visitor economy.

“For 27 million travelers each year, BWI is their first impression of Maryland,” Miller said.
