A federal appeals court has blocked a judge’s order requiring Florida and the federal government to shut down and dismantle a controversial immigration detention facility built in the Everglades, widely referred to as “Alligator Alcatraz.”
On Thursday, the Eleventh US Circuit Court of Appeals granted requests from the State of Florida and the US Department of Homeland Security to stay a district court’s preliminary injunction that would have forced the site to wind down operations within 60 days. A preliminary injunction is a temporary order put in place until a court can make a final decision in a case.
“After careful consideration, we grant the defendants’ motions and we stay the preliminary injunction and the underlying case itself pending appeal,&r...
Annapolis, MD - Sept. 4, 2025 - Gov. Wes Moore (D) said Wednesday he would be willing to accept help from the federal government to fight crime in Baltimore, just not through the deployment of National Guard troops as President Donald Trump (R) has repeatedly threatened.
Moore was responding to Tuesday comments by Trump during a rambling news conference in which he called Baltimore and Chicago crime [...] that needed the presence of federal troops, a deployment he insists he has the authority to order, despite governors and a federal court saying otherewise.
Moore and Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott (D) have said repeatedly that rates of homicides and gun violence are declining in the city, but admit there is still work to be done.
Moore said Wednesday using the...

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 3, 2025 - Arming Baltimore City Schools Police Officers during the school day is a topic that has been debated in Annapolis for years.
Currently, City Schools Police assigned to a school must disarm themselves during instructional hours, meaning students do not get armed security while in school. But, as Project Baltimore recently learned, the same does not apply to district leadership. When the CEO recently toured a series of schools, she was accompanied by armed police officers.
On Monday, August 25, students returned to class in Baltimore City Public Schools. On that day, City Schools CEO Dr. Sonja Santelises traveled the city visiting classrooms, greeting staff and talking to students.
With the CEO, were two Baltimore City Schools Police Officers. Both officers...
French President Emmanuel Macron requested to make a snap visit to Israel, but the request was rejected, with a condition attached, according to a report which aired Wednesday evening on Kan 11 News.
The report stated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conveyed a message to Macron, stipulating that he must retract his intention to recognize a Palestinian state in order to visit Israel. Macron reportedly refused.
An Israeli source quoted in the report said, “We won’t let Macron play both sides.”
Earlier, former French parliament member Meyer Habib told Kan 11 that Macron had indeed sought to visit Israel but was turned down by Netanyahu.
“Macron sent a message to Netanyahu expressing his desire to come, but Netanyahu responded that under the cu...
In a dramatic twist to New York City's mayoral race, advisers to US President Donald Trump have reportedly discussed offering Mayor Eric Adams a position in the administration - potentially an ambassadorship - in a bid to clear the field and weaken the chances of Democratic front-runner Zohran Mamdani, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.
According to three sources familiar with the matter, the maneuver aims to bolster former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s third-party candidacy against Mamdani, whose rise has alarmed business leaders and political moderates and who has come under fire for his anti-Israel views.
The discussions, which have unfolded over several weeks, have taken on new urgency as the campaign season enters its final stretch, according to the Times....
A U.S. judge in Boston on Wednesday ruled that the Trump administration had unlawfully terminated roughly $2.2 billion in federal research grants awarded to Harvard University — marking a major victory for the nation's oldest college, which has sparred with Trump officials for months over federal funding.
In the 84-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Allison D. Burroughs said the Trump administration "used antisemitism as a smokescreen" to illegally block off the billions in research funding for Harvard University.
"We must fight against antisemitism, but we equally need to protect our rights, including our right to free speech, and neither goal should nor needs to be sacrificed on the altar of the other," she said in her order.
"Now it is the job of the courts t...
