Since the start of the war, when hundreds of hostages - men, women, children, and elderly - have been taken by Hamas, there has been this global campaign to "Bring them home!" Signs have been hung, T-shirts have been worn, and rallies have been attended to... all with the aim and drive to "Bring them home!"
I want to share with you a personal feeling that I recently had regarding these words: "Bring them home!"
I'll be completely honest. Last week, when I attended the rally in Washington, D.C., whenever the members of the rally would chant, "Bring them home!", I felt somewhat uncomfortable to do so. Please don't misunderstand me. Of course, I want more than anything, for the hostages to be freed and to come home, but I felt uncomfortable to join the chanting of "Bring them home!" because part of me felt that a political call to "Bring them home" was exactly that, a mere political call. Who exactly are we talking to, though, when we say "Bring them home"? The president? Congress? Netanyahu? The UN? Hamas??
But then something struck a chord inside. I thought about it, and came to the realization that here are hundreds of thousands of Jews, most of whom are completely secular, and they are shouting passionately and loudly: "Bring them home!" Of course they were talking about the hostages. But maybe, just maybe, Hashem was purposefully arranging that thousands of secular Jews should proclaim "Bring them home!", because deep inside, the holy sparks of Divinity, the pure Jewish souls are yearning, hoping, and begging that they themselves return and come home.
How many Jews have no connection to Hashem? How many Jews have no idea who Hashem is? How many Jews don't know what Shabbos is? How many Jews don't realize the incredible opportunity to be a Torah Jew? The answer to all of these questions is: Too many.
As we inch closer and closer to the arrival of Moshiach, perhaps it's not a coincidence that hundreds of thousands of secular Jews have been shouting and screaming "Bring them home! Bring them home! Bring them home!" Deep down, they are talking to themselves, to their true selves!
Hashem is orchestrating, perhaps, the return of ALL of the hostages. Those that have been taken hostage in Hamas, and those that have been taken hostage by Western culture. Six million Jews died in the Holocaust, H'yd, but since then, far more than six million Jews have been "taken hostage" and have assimilated to the untruthfulness of the Western world.
"Bring them home!" is the popular thing to shout, yell, and scream these days. Because these days are not normal days. These days are unprecedented days, and the waking up of Torah Jewry and the passion and excitement to be a Jew is more apparent than ever before.
Hashem, we ask and pray that You (because only You can) bring all the hostages home.
And we ask that you BRING US HOME to Yerushalayim, with the coming of Moshiach and the rebuilding of Bayis Shlishi, may it be speedily in our days!
