Federal officials have chosen a site in Prince George’s County, Maryland, over a site in Springfield, Virginia, to build a new FBI headquarters that will replace the agency’s downtown D.C. location, according to reports.
The new FBI headquarters campus will be built on a 61-acre site near the Greenbelt Metro station as part of a mixed-use development, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
On Thursday, Virginia officials urged the federal government to reverse its decision after they learned that the selection process "has been irrevocably undermined and tainted."
"We are deeply disturbed to learn that a political appointee at the General Services Administration overruled the unanimous recommendation of a three-person panel comprised of career experts from the GSA and the Federal Bureau of Investigation concluding that Springfield, Virginia is the site best suited for the new FBI headquarters," Virginia Gov.
