Baltimore, MD - Nov. 1, 2023   - Starting from November 1, 2023, Baltimore County has implemented a plastic bag ban, according to WMAR2News. This ban prohibits restaurants and stores from providing plastic carryout bags and mandates businesses to charge 5 cents for paper bags. There are exceptions for small businesses with fewer than three locations and farmers' markets. The goal of this law is to reduce pollution and litter, with some welcoming the change for its environmental benefits while others, particularly business owners, may not be enthusiastic about the adjustments required. Although there was an attempt to exempt liquor stores from the law, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski vetoed the proposal, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the law's integrity. Businesses have a 90-day grace period to comply, and non-compliance could result in a potential $500 fine.
