More than a hundred family members of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, assembled last night ,on the roof of the Aish HaTorah yeshiva opposite the Kotel (Western Wall) in Jerusalem. It was a prayer gathering on the 11th of Cheshvan, the day Rachel Imeinu passed away. It was Rachel who prayed for us in these words: "And children shall return to their borders."

Meirav Leshem-Gonen, the mother of Romi, who was kidnapped, spoke as follows: "We did not choose to be in this family, or be a part of it, but here we are, and now we suddenly discover that the entire Jewish people is one family. I am not religious, but I am asking that we pray together at this holy place."

And so we prayed. Psalms were read and a shofar was blown, but then Rabbi Eitiel Goldwicht, who organized the event, asked everyone to simply be silent and allow their hearts to speak. Thirty seconds of a still small voice, a prayer from the heart.

And then all the fathers and mothers and brothers and sisters closed their eyes and prayed for their loved ones, during a special time at a special place. And together with them tens of thousands -- during a live broadcast -- prayed silently in London, California, New York, and Argentina since, as Meirav said, this is one family.

And after the uninterrupted noise we have heard since that Shabbat morning, the silence was so powerful.

Listen to the silence, join in, and may all our prayers be answered.
