Baltimore, MD - Sept. 20, 2023  - Maryland has recorded a decrease in unemployment, reaching a new low of 1.7% in August, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This improvement is attributed to the addition of 12,400 jobs, notably in the Professional and Business Services sector which saw an increase of 6,300 positions, according to WMAR2News. Despite the growth, some sectors such as Trade, Transportation, and Utilities experienced a decline. This follows a positive trend from July when the state achieved a 2% unemployment rate with the creation of 4,700 jobs.
