Baltimore, MD - Aug. 23, 2023  - A recent Inspector General report brings to light potential bribery incidents involving Baltimore City building inspectors, according to WMAR2News. The investigation was initiated after an allegation surfaced that a Department of Housing & Community Development inspector approved a permit for a bribe. While the complaint couldn't be fully substantiated, two instances were identified where contractors tried bribing inspectors. In one case, an inspector kept a bribe under $50 based on their supervisor's advice, contradicting both state law and DHCD guidelines. The inspector's acceptance of the money didn't affect the inspection's outcome. The Inspector General suggests implementing a policy requiring inspectors to immediately report any bribery attempts.
