Baltimore, MD - Aug. 8, 2023  - Nearly 40,000 Maryland homes and businesses remained without power on Tuesday afternoon following severe weather that downed power lines and caused extensive damage, reports the Pikesville Patch. At the peak of Monday's storms, 120,000 homes and businesses lost power, with 56,000 outages in hard-hit Carroll County. BGE's outage map showed that as of Tuesday afternoon, about 39,600 customers were still without power. BGE CEO Carim Khouzami described the storm as one of the most devastating in years and said that while 80% of the power was expected to be restored by Tuesday night, some repairs could last into the weekend. The storm also toppled over 30 utility poles in Carroll County, trapping 33 adults and 14 children in their cars.
