Baltimore, MD - June 29, 2023  - When I first saw the ad for a sunset cruise for ladies, I was intrigued by who had the creativity to think of such a classy fundraiser. Bnos Yisroel’s PTBY (PTA) put on their sailor thinking caps to come up with something totally different that would raise money for the school all the while giving the women of our community a very special time. And they did not disappoint! I love all things ocean, especially boating, and with summer approaching it was a really nice way to end the school year, especially when you’re a teacher, in a relaxed environment amongst the company of friends and food. I went with a fellow first mate and we were both so excited to do something unique that was outdoors and at a beautiful time of day, sunset. Parking by the marina with all the other boats docked lent to the charm of what was to be a beautiful evening. Entering the boat, we were greeted by elegantly set tables replete with a choice of summer drinks (lemonade anyone) and summer flowers with a delicious buffet of sushi, salad, cheese platter and fruit waiting to be imbibed by its patrons. Dessert was on the upper deck and consisted of a fondue bar with loads of choices for chocolate dipping! Included in the night's amenities by the Bnos PTBY were pashmina shawls in soft colors that came in handy when enjoying the cool breeze on either deck.

Once we set sail and found our places to sit, the vibe of calm and serenity permeated both inside and outside the boat as women chatted with each other or simply listened to the serenade of the two female violinists, Sara Leeba Caplan and Tzipora Korman. Not wanting to miss the sunset, we ventured upstairs and enjoyed the summer air with the setting of the sun as the backdrop.

As the sky darkened, Mrs. Chana Grove spoke about the night's theme, kol hanachalim holchim el hayam, all the rivers flow towards the sea (Koheles 1:7).  Explaining how each person has their personal strengths and path to complete and we all come together with our strengths and help make Baltimore the beautiful community that it is. This message was reflected by the heartwarming array of women from across the community. There were women of different ages, affiliations, and backgrounds, all coming together to enjoy a beautiful and unique evening out.

This was followed by a fun Bingo game regarding Baltimore trivia. As a native Baltimorean, I was super excited to yell out “Jack’s” for one of the answers, and for those who don’t know, this was the mom and pop grocery store that preceded today’s world renowned Seven Mile Market! Prizes were awarded to those who completed their game boards, first. The evening was capped off by a lovely kumzitz underneath the stars as we headed back to the dock.

It was a truly wonderful night out that generated support for a noble cause; Bnos Yisroel of Baltimore’s PTBY. If you missed this year’s, can’t wait to see you at the next one!

Au Revoir!
