Jerusalem, Israel - June 12, 2023 - Retired dentist Anna Kohen was in Jerusalem, Israel and at the Kosovo Embassy, telling how her father went from being called David to Doaud and her brother Ali on Monday night, June 12th..

The stories of Jewish families rescued in Albania during the Shoah are fascinating. She was born in Vlora, Albania, after the end of World War II and grew up in a small community of Romaniote Jews saved from the Nazis by Muslim Albanians.

Her family experienced the hardships of the communist dictatorship, however, managed to escape Albania in 1966, through a carefully planned scheme. They settled in Greece, where she completed her dentistry studies before emigrating to the United States where she trained and worked in dentistry in New York before retiring to Florida.

In 1990, with the help of several Jewish organizations, Dr. Kohen brought 37 of her Jewish-Albanian relatives to the US, and assisted them in getting settled. Her book "Flower of Vlora: Growing up Jewish in Communist Albania" tells how members of the small Romaniote Jewish community were hidden by their Muslim neighbors and saved.

Ines Demiri who heads the Kosovo Embassy in Jerusalem, has placed emphasis in sharing Holocaust stories and works with Yad Vashem to preserve importance.

After speaking the author sat to sign copies of her book which were available for the invited guests.
