Philadelphia, PA - June 11, 2023 - (NBC Philadelphia) An intense truck fire under an I-95 on-ramp outside of Philadelphia led to a section of the roadway collapsing and the subsequent closure of the highway early Sunday. The northbound side of I-95 has collapsed, and the southbound side is compromised, according to on-site reports. Philadelphia Fire Department's Captain Derrick Bowmer revealed that the truck fire runoff caused explosions underground, and fire was seen emerging from manholes. He urged commuters to avoid the area, indicating that the highway reopening isn't expected in the immediate future.
