Annapolis, Md - May 18, 2023  - Following the recent resignation of a key committee leader, Adrienne A. Jones, the Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates, has unveiled significant leadership changes within the House, reports Maryland Matters. Notably, Del. Dana Stein (D-Baltimore County), current vice chair of the House Environment and Transportation Committee, will be Jones’ choice for speaker pro tem.

Stein would be taking over from Del. Sheree Sample-Hughes (D-Lower Shore), who has held the position since 2019. This critical appointment underscores Stein's reputation and standing in the House of Delegates.

The reshuffling was triggered by the departure of Del. Kumar Barve (D-Montgomery), former chair of the House Environment and Transportation Committee, who has been nominated to the Maryland Public Service Commission. Del. Marc Korman (D-Montgomery) will assume Barve's previous role as committee chair.

Further changes include Del. David Moon (D-Montgomery) stepping up as the majority leader, and Del. Sandy Bartlett (D-Anne Arundel) taking the position of vice-chair of the House Judiciary Committee, previously held by Moon.

Several additional leadership appointments have also been announced across various House Appropriations subcommittees and Ways and Means Committee's subcommittees.

Governor Wes Moore (D) is set to fill the General Assembly position vacated by Barve, following a vote by the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee scheduled for June 14. Barve's nomination to the Public Service Commission is subject to Senate confirmation in the coming year.
