Baltimore, MD - May 10, 2023 - Convened by City Councilman Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer, Baltimore Jewish community and institutional leaders gathered this evening to meet with Maryland Senate President Bill Ferguson.

Individuals in attendance, including educational and philanthropic leaders, thanked the Senate President for his steadfast tenacity in the face of intense opposition, which resulted in his winning fight for the needs and priorities of the Jewish community during the 2023 Legislative Session. Ferguson was the integral voice in support of preserving the State's funding for the Maryland BOOST (Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today) Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships for students in kindergarten through 12th grade to attend a participating nonpublic school.

“Having known President Ferguson for a long time, he has always been a leader that I look up to because I know he will do the right thing. He follows through on his commitments, which are based on the knowledge and the talent it takes to lead our city and our state in the right direction,” said Councilman Schleifer.

Also in attendance was Delegate Dalya Attar, a leading voice in support of the BOOST program in the Maryland House of Delegates. “Having worked side by side with Senator Ferguson for five years in Annapolis, I have seen firsthand his dedication to every resident of the state of Maryland. I am in awe of his commitment to service, and I am proud to continue working alongside him on all the issues that affect our constituents,” said Delegate Attar.

Engaging in both one-on-one and group discussions, the Senate President described the evening as an important opportunity for dialogue and thanked attendees for “staying engaged in the work at hand and for the years to come, that we will do together.”
