Yet when the world turned hostile, when Israel was vilified simply for protecting its children, Charlie stepped forward with clarity and conviction. He never wavered, never hesitated to raise his voice against the rising tide of hatred and falsehood.
Though he was not Jewish, he lived as our brother. His courage became a shield against the storm of slander and violence unleashed after October 7. In moments when others looked away or chose silence, Charlie chose truth. In times when com...

Baltimore, Md - Sept. 10, 2025 - As the clock winds down on a final Baltimore County redistricting map, council members Mike Ertel and Izzy Patoka introduced an amendment to the map Tuesday.
"This updated 2 one map does the best job of keeping communities together as much as possible while also complying with the Voting Rights Act in giving communities of color the most meaningful opportunities to elect their preferred candidates," Councilman Ertel said.
The amendment creates a majority-minority district in addition to two majority African American districts.
This is all being done in the midst of expanding the county from seven districts to nine.
But council members and some residents say they had little to no time to look over the amended plan.
"And then to provide or expect hours o...

"What is happening in Gaza has shaken the conscience of the world. Man-made hunger cannot be used as a weapon of war. This must stop," she said.
Von der Leyen noted that the EU's aid to Gaza is larger than that of any other international actor, but, she said, "Europe must do more."
Among the measures she presented were suspending bilateral support to Israel, except funding for civil society and Yad Vashem; advancing sanctions against "extreme ministers" and "violent settlers"; partial suspension of the association agreement with Israel regarding trade matters; and the creation of an international donor group for the Palestinians...
We all know that the 613 mitzvot consist of two types: mitzvot aseh and mitzvot lo taaseh. In contrast to the mitzvot aseh, which offer positive opportunities, the mitzvot lo taaseh teach us what actions to avoid. They are the sur meira (steering clear of the bad) that pre-empts the aseh tov (doing good).
Though all the 365 mitzvot lo taaseh are essential, the Torah describes three of them — avodah zarah (idol worship), shefichut damim (murder), and gilui arayot (inappropriate sexual relationships) — as uniquely problematic because they defile the sanctity of Eretz Yisrael.[1]
Their severity also has halachic significance — they are the only prohibitions we need to avoid at all costs, including sacrificing our lives (yeihareig v’al yaavor).[2] If one is forc...
