It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Dov Shternbuch zt”l. He was 96.

Today, at about noon, Rav Dov ascended the stairs at Kollel Volozhin at the Yeshiva Gaon Yaakov building on Rechov Nechemiah, as he was on his way to daven Mincha, and he suddenly collapsed. Hatzolah was called to the scene.

Rav Dov was born in London. His father was Rav Asher Shternbuch and his mother was Rebbetzin Devorah Shternbuch, a daughter of Rav Shlomo Zalman Pines, author of sefer Pines Shlomo. He was a descendant of the Vilna Gaon.

He learned at the yeshiva of Rav Moshe Yehudah Schneider in London and later served as a teacher at the Gateshead Seminary. Rav Dov was a chavrusah of Rav Avrohom Gurwicz, today rosh yeshiva of the Gateshead Yeshiva.

All his life, he carried himself modestly. He was a tremendous talmid chochom who knew Shas on his fingertips.

He had a special connection with Rav Chaim Kanievsky and would often visit Rav Chaim’s home on Rechov Rashbam.

Rav Dov was a brother of Rav Elya Shternbuch zt”l of Antwerp and Rav Moshe Shternbuch shlit”a, raavad of the Eidah Hachareidis.

He is survived by his rebbetzin and their family.

The levayah will be held tonight at 8 p.m. from his home on Rechov Rav Nachman M’Breslov in Bnei Brak and at 10:30 at the Shamgar funeral home in Yerushalayim. Kevurah will follow on Har Hamenuchos.

Yehi zichro boruch.
