The driver that crashed into the family's vehicle was driving well over the speed limit at approximately 150 kph.

A 34-year-old and her three-week-old daughter were killed overnight between Saturday and Sunday in a car crash on Route 443, which leads to the Givat Ze’ev neighborhood in Jerusalem.

The Rimel family’s son, Itay, was critically injured in the crash and the father, Ephraim, was seriously injured. They were hit by another vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old, who is injured as well. The family were residents of Neveh Tzuf.

An MDA senior medic explained that the crash left both vehicles “very crushed and disassembled” with the wounded “trapped inside.” According to police reports, the driver who crashed into the family’s vehicle was driving well over the speed limit at about 150 kph.

Tzipi Rimel, the mother who died in the crash, is originally from Chicago, as is the rest of her family. The three-week-old was named Noam Rachel.

Hadassah-University Medical Center released a statement explaining that Noam Rachel was brought in critical condition and that, after numerous attempts at CPR, the staff was forced to pronounce her dead in the same hospital where she was born three weeks prior.

“The stories of the family and friends from Neveh Tzuf touch the heart and tell of a special family, full of grace and blessed action,” said Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi on his Facebook page. Read more at JPost
