Jerusalem - Hundreds of men and women turned out to mourn the second victim of the horrific bus attack that took place Tuesday morning in Jerusalem.

51 year old Alon Guverg died in the shooting and stabbing spree that took place in Armon Hanatziv.  With no living relatives to bury Guverg, friends and neighbors took on the responsibility of laying the deceased to rest, with ZAKA issuing a call to the public, asking them to attend the funeral which took place at 5 PM today in Givat Shaul, as reported by Israel National News.

Over a dozen people were injured in yesterday’s attack which also claimed the life of 78 year old Chaim Haviv, as previously reported on VIN News.

Among those who turned out to honor Guverg was Rabbi Aryeh Stern, Ashkenazic chief rabbi of Jerusalem.

“Unfortunately we see Jews being killed in the streets of Israel because they are Jews,” Rabbi Stern eulogized. “Everyone feels a sense of shared destiny during these moments.”

Rabbi Golan Gabbay, head of Armon Hatnatziv’s Orthodox Jewish community, who blocked the terrorists with his car during the brutal bloodbath, noted that despite Guvberg’s lack of blood relatives, familial relationships run strong throughout the Jewish community.

“The residents of the neighborhood came to give their last respects to the victim,” said Rabbi Gabbay. “Although he has no family, he has a family called the Jewish people.”

In an emotional moment, mourners joined together in song at the funeral, singing “L’maan Achai V’Reyai,” a song of solidarity and brotherhood.

Also in attendance were Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, rosh yeshiva at Merkaz HaRav and Danny Hirschberg, CEO of Bnei Akiva.
