Washington, D.C. - A newly disclosed email from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s account refers to Israel as acting “cocky” during a contentious period between the two nations in 2010, while also standing in direct opposition to the account offered by the current 2016 Democratic party presidential front-runner in her 2014 memoir “Hard Choices.”

FREEBEACON.com reports that the 2010 email came during a testy period in March between the Obama administration and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the announcement of plans to build 1,600 new housing units in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood in Jerusalem.

With peace talks stalled at the time, Clinton had excoriated Netanyahu over the timing of the announcement, at one point berating him in a lengthy 45-minute phone during which she demanded that he pull the approval of the housing plan and offer amends to the Palestinians in hopes of jump-starting further peace negotiations.

Shortly thereafter, Netanyahu’s tone in a press briefing before an upcoming meeting with Obama on the matter prompted BBC reporter Kim Ghattas to write in an email to Clinton aide Jake Sullivan that Israel was “sounding a bit cocky” and that she didn’t think the prime minister was going to acquiesce.

Responding to the email, Clinton wrote on March 22, 2010 “They always sound cocky—-in the air or on the ground.”

Netanyahu refused to budge and Clinton continued her verbal assault, at one point accusing Israel of conducting “unilateral statements and actions,” which resulted in “humanitarian needs in Gaza.”

Interestingly, Clinton presented a diametrically opposed version of the incident in her 2014 memoir “Hard Choices,” writing that she “disagreed with Obama and then-White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel on a demand that Israel halt all new settlement construction.”

“I was worried that we would be locking ourselves into a confrontation we didn’t need,” Clinton wrote.
