Jerusalem, Israel – Sept. 8, 2025 – The horrific terrorist attack in Yerushalayim this morning has shocked and saddened all of כלל ישראל. May ה׳ grant נחמה to the grieving families and רפואה שלימה to all the wounded, many of whom remain in critical condition.

One of the קדושים, רב לוי יצחק פאש הי״ד, served as director of the physical plant at ישיבת קול תורה in Bayit Vegan. He was beloved as a tremendous בעל חסד and a תלמיד חכם. My grandson, a talmid in the yeshiva, told me that just yesterday he asked Rav Yitzchak for something, and he replied, “Tomorrow I will bring it to you.”

Rav Levi Yitzchak lived in Tel Tzion, outside Yerushalayim. That morning, he took a bus to the Ramot road, where drivers often stop to offer rides to those heading to Bayit Vegan. He and another rebbe from Kol Torah entered a car, but when an אברך asked to take the ride instead — explaining that he had an important appointment at שערי צדק Hospital — Rav Levi Yitzchak immediately gave up his seat. “Of course, I can wait for the bus,” he said. “I am not in such a rush, but you need to make your appointment.” Just five minutes later, Rav Levi Yitzchak was killed על פי קידוש השם, escorted to עולם הבא with the added מצוה of חסד.

Another אברך, a כולל יונגערמאן who learns in a הלכה–דיינות כולל and holds a licensed handgun, became an unlikely hero. Described by his brother-in-law as calm and not a “tough person,” his only shooting experience was at a gun range for the license test. Yet when the terrorists tried to escape and opened fire with automatic rifles, he returned fire with his small pistol and killed them. He later said it was nothing but סייעתא דשמיא that placed him there at that moment — a נס מן השמים that stopped the attack from continuing.

יהי רצון שהשומר ישראל ישמור שארית ישראל האומרים שמע ישראל.
