Baltimore, MD - Aug. 29, 2024 - The Maryland Transportation Authority Board approved on Thursday a $73 million contract for the first phase of the process to rebuild the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge.

The MDTA is awarding the contract to Kiewit Infrastructure Co. as the Progressive Design-Builder, bringing on board a project delivery team under one entity and a single contract to provide both design and construction services in partnership with the MDTA.

The rebuild project is slated to begin in 2025 and the replacement bridge is expected to open in Fall 2028. Upon successful completion of the first phase, Kiewit will have exclusive negotiating rights for the second phase, which includes project final design/engineering and construction.

The chief engineer said crews will start with demolishing what's left of the Key Bridge piers in a matter of months.... Read More: WBAL TV
