Tuesday, the Maryland State Department of Education released the results from the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) for the 2023-2024 school year.

The results showed increases statewide in English language Arts and math proficiencies. But leaders in the department of education are not celebrating.

“We've got a lot of work to do,” said Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carey Wright.“Over the past three years, we've come up by at least three points. But that's not where Maryland needs to be.”
