Jerusalem - Residents in various communities across Israel awoke on Tuesday to a white morning as forecasts predicted more snow in the country’s elevated regions.
Snowfall continued for a second day in Jerusalem and mountainous regions in the North and South on Tuesday, as winter weather conditions pervaded throughout the country.
The snowfall that began Sunday in Safed made its way east toward the Gush Etzion region, before doubling back in the Jerusalem area.
The Israel Meteorological Service forecast a chance of light snow on Mount Gilboa and Mount Carmel in the northern region and the Negev Mountains in the South. The IMS warned of the risk of flash flooding in the effected areas.
Cold temperatures were forecast throughout the country, and rain storms were expected Tuesday night in areas ranging from central Israel to the Negev desert.
Although schools remained open in most communities in Israel, the Knesset canceled all of Tuesday’s meetings in light of the inclement weather predictions.
IMS temperature forecasts included Jerusalem with a high of 2 degrees Celcius and low of -2°C; Haifa with a 9°C high and 2°C low; the Golan Heights region with a 6°C high and 0°C low; Tel Aviv with a 11°C high and 5°C low; and Beersheba with a 6°C high and 3°low.
