Baltimore, MD - Mar. 1, 2026 - Maryland Republicans in both chambers have unveiled a coordinated slate of energy bills that they say would cut electric bills by roughly $40 per month, escalating their criticism of Gov. Wes Moore’s energy plan as offering only limited short-term relief while maintaining policies they argue drive up costs.

At separate Republican caucus press conferences this week, GOP leaders framed their package as a structural alternative to Moore’s Lower Bills and Local Power Act. The governor’s proposal would, among other things, provide households with about $40 in one-time rebates, funded through the state’s Strategic Energy Investment Fund, or SEIF, which Senate Minority Whip Justin Ready recently criticized as “issuing a refund after the damage is done.”

Ready told reporters Thursday that the GOP package would “save ratepayers as much as $40 a month.”

“We haven’t really seen a serious alternative that gets at those regular monthly fees that are literally added by state government policies, so we want to continue to sound the alarm on that,” Ready said.... Read More: SUN/Fox45
