Baltimore, MD - Dec. 19, 2016 - On Sunday morning, December 18th, Governor Larry Hogan and First Lady, Yumi Hogan, opened their home, Maryland's Government House to their friends in the Jewish community for the annual Chanukah celebration.

Although Chanukah is still nearly one week away, many of the holiday season gatherings are taking place early this year. As in past years and with previous Maryland governors, the sponsor of the brunch event was Mr. & Mrs. Leonard & Phyllis Attman.

The brunch brought together a large cross-section of Jewish communal leaders from across the state who came to celebrate the upcoming Festival of Lights with the state's chief executive. Governor Hogan took the opportunity to share with the gathering some of his experiences from the recent trip he took to Israel and he proudly wore a special limited-edition Maryland - Israel themed yarmulke. He also warmly mentioned his trip earlier in the week to Bais Yaakov of Baltimore where he celebrated the success of the BOOST nonpublic school scholarship program together with the Jewish day school community and where he announced the increases he will be giving to the program's allocation come January.

During the ceremonial Menorah-lighting (this year without the blessings), Governor Hogan honored a number of his close friends in leadership, including his doctor, Dr. Aaron Rapoport, a noted oncologist at University of Maryland Medical Center, who oversaw the treatment of Governor Hogan during his year and a half bout with Lymphoma.
