Weeks after getting UNESCO to affirm that the Kosel has no Jewish connection, the Palestinian Authority is aiming to lay claim to another piece of Jewish history, Elder of Ziyon reports.
The Palestinians are preparing to file a claim with the UN’s cultural organization that the Dead Sea Scrolls are actually Palestinian culture.
The scrolls, a large collection of mostly Hebrew writings from the period of the second Bais Hamikdosh — were discovered in the Judean hills between 1947 and 1956. They include many seforim of Tanach and are said to be from the Essenes Jewish sect of that period.
The Palestinians, a new “nation” founded half a century ago, would like the scrolls to be listed on the World Heritage List under their own fictitious name.
