The attempting kidnapping of a 4-year-old Jewish girl took place in a Far Rockaway playground Shabbat afternoon, police said Sunday. According to authorities, the incident occurred when the child was offered a candy by an unknown woman, who then tried grabbing her.

The mother of the girl was with her daughter in the park on Mott avenue at around 9:45 a.m., police said, when an unknown woman approached the child, saying, “Come here little girl” while offering her a candy. The mother frightened the woman away by yelling, police said.

Investigators immediately arrived at the park and canvassed the the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate her. Detectives at the 101 precinct will continue the investigation, reviewing nearby surveillance cameras and interviewing the victim’s family members to obtain more information on the suspect.
