Israeli Ambassador to US Ron Dermer, was guest speaker at the 24th annual B'nai Brith World Center Journalism Award Ceremony in Jerusalem, Israel on Thursday night. The ceremony recognizing excellence in Diaspora reporting, was opened by Dr. Haim V. Katz, Chairman of B'nai Brith World Center.

Jerusalem, Israel - July 8, 2016 - Receiving the journalism awards were Amanda Borschel-Dan of Times of Israel and Allison Kaplan Sommer of Haaretz. The event was held in the Mishkanot Sha'annanim auditorium. A special newspaper with selections of articles by the Haaretz correspondent was available in the lobby.

Special Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Israeli-Diaspora Relations through the arts was popular Israeli singer Idan Raichel, who did a short impromptu song.

Receiving a Life Time Achievement award was Ya'akov Ahimeir of the Israel Broadcasting System. A video presentation included some of his most memorable television interviews.

All the speeches were in Hebrew, which prompted Ambassador Dermer to comment on his using English or Hebrew for his talk and at past official government meetings.

The award ceremony started at 6:30 pm as announced. Audience members continued to arrive well after program had begun.  The importance of good Israeli-Diaspora relations and understanding, stressed by Dr Katz in his opening remarks, is critical for the Jewish people in these difficult times of growing international antisemitism and BDS.
