Baltimore, MD - Aug. 24, 2025 - The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), in coordination with the Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT), is actively investigating a cybersecurity incident that involves unauthorized access to certain systems. Upon detecting the incident, our cybersecurity teams immediately took actions to investigate the nature and scope of the incident, to contain the threat, and to secure our systems.

The Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM) has activated the Statewide Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), which includes the MTA, DoIT, and other appropriate state agencies.

MTA core services (Local Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail), MARC, Mobility, Call-A-Ride, and Commuter Bus are operating normally. Mobility paratransit services are also operating but are unable to schedule new trips or rebook existing trips. Additionally, some MTA service operations and information systems, including real-time information and our call centers may experience impacts. We are working with third-party cybersecurity experts and law enforcement partners to assess the scope of the incident and mitigate its impact. The investigation is ongoing. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

  • All previously scheduled Mobility trips for this week will be honored. The agency is actively working to resolve this issue as quickly and securely as possible and will provide updates as they become available.
  • In the meantime, eligible riders should consider using the Call-A-Ride program, which can be accessed at www.mtacallaride.org or (410) 664-2030.
  • Customers experiencing urgent medical needs are advised to contact their healthcare providers or appropriate emergency services.

While real time tracking is impacted, parents and students can still access transit information on the MTA website. For schedule information and updates, visit: https://www.mta.maryland.gov

Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and security of our transit customers and employees. MDOT/MTA are working with our partners to support all communities impacted. We will work with our media partners to keep the public updated.
