NEW YORK (VINnews) — Internet video site YouTube has inexplicably deleted thousands of videos of former Israeli Knesset Member and Jewish Defense League founder Rabbi Meir Kahane, closing an account which had uploaded the videos with no apparent explanation given for the move.

According to a Jewish Press report, Youtube removed 2,600 videos with footage of Rabbi Meir Kahane and his disciples some weeks ago.

The account, which was operated by Michael Miller, an American immigrant to Israel who co-manages the social media pages for Boomerang – Fighting For Israel, a pro-Israel advocacy group, was also deleted at the same time. Miller tried to appeal the closure of the account a number of times but was rebuffed by Youtube. The video site responded to his queries by stating  “Thank you for your account suspension appeal. We have decided to keep your account suspended based on our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.”

“I am shocked, outraged, angry, upset, bitter, and frustrated – but deep down, sadly not surprised – that a social media outlet that claims to support and tolerate freedom of speech for everyone would [do this]…. This is an absolute disgrace,” Miller said in an interview with The Jewish Press.

Rabbi Kahane founded the Jewish Defense League (JDL) in 1968 to combat anti-Semitism in the US “by whatever means necessary” and to protest the USSR’s refusal to permit Jews to emigrate. The organization’s controversial activities included targeting Arab-American political activists and neo-Nazis for assassination. A number of JDL members were linked to attacks against anti-Semitic and anti-Israel elements in the US and Israel.

In 1971 Rabbi Kahane moved to Israel and established the Kach party, which called for transfer of Israel’s Arab population to other Arab states. Rabbi Kahane served as a member of Knesset from 1984 to 1988 when his party was outlawed as racist and barred from participating in the election. In 1990 he was assassinated in New York by an Arab-American terrorist linked to Al-Khaeda.
