GEORGINA, CANADA (VosIzNeias) – A man has been arrested in the vandalism of a Sukkah in Georgina over the Sukkos Holiday.
Canadian News outlet are reporting that 35-year-old Saeed Ahmad was charged Wednesday with vandalizing the Sukkah on Oct 19 at the Chabad Jewish Centre in Georgina.
Rabbi Yossi Vorovitch, says the suspect came back again on Oct 26 after a short altercation Ahmad attempted to the enter the rabbi’s home and admitted to the sukkah vandalism during Sukkos.
The rabbi said the same individual later posted an image of Adolf Hitler on the Jewish centre’s web page.
“These incidents are concerning and of course we take it very seriously since safety is so important to the Jewish community,” Vorovitch said.
Ahmad was held in custody pending a bail hearing at Newmarket court on Wednesday.
“York Regional Police does not tolerate hate crime in any form. Those who victimize individuals based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or mental or physical disability will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” police said Wednesday.
