Jerusalem, Israel - Feb. 3, 2019 - President Reuven Rivlin, Sunday, February 3 / 28 Shevat, welcomed to Beit HaNasi a delegation of 28 ambassadors to the United Nations from around the world who are visiting Israel. The delegation led by Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon, included President of the American Zionist Movement Richard Heideman and spouses of visiting dignitaries.

“The UN is the most important international forum for us and for the world, said the president, noting, “some UN bodies take unfair decisions about Israel. Double standards and discrimination must not detract from the UN’s important work.”

“Change is in your hands,” the president emphasized. “Please ensure that our good bilateral relations are also how you relate to Israel at the UN.”

Israeli ambassador to the UN Danon replied: “Thank you, President Reuven Rivlin for talking with us ambassadors about the unique characteristics of the State of Israel and Israeli society. When we face attacks in the international arena, the truth is the best answer.”

Hungarian Ambassador to the UN Katalin Annamaria Bogyay spoke on behalf of the international delegation and mentioned that because of this trip they go back with a better understanding. In her remarks Bogyay told the president that the upcoming Maccabiah is being organized in Hungary. The country is looking forward to hosting the thousands of Jewish athletes from around the world.

The president answered questions, including one posed by the Ambassador of Panama. The UN delegation was to go north from Jerusalem, to view the tunnels Hezbollah has dug into Israeli territory. Countries have participated in the UN forces on the border, one Ambassador told BJL, for the past 40 years.

Of interest to Baltimoreans, Justin, the assistant to Ambassador Danon is from Towson, MD.
