Jerusalem, Israel - Feb. 12, 2018 - The 15th Jerusalem Conference sponsored by the Israeli weekly Hebrew language newspaper BeSheva, opened on Monday morning at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Jerusalem, Israel. Over two days, dozens of Israeli politicians and journalists will speak on various panels, on a range of current event topics.

BeSheva Director General Dudu Saada gave opening remarks before journalist Yedida Meir moderated the first plenary.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin spoke briefly before sitting to be interviewed by journalist Amit Segal. The President put on a kippa when he included a mishna in his remarks, and emphasized Israel is a Jewish and democratic county. Before sitting down, Rivlin joked about jumping into "fire," as to be asked questions by Segal could be dangerous.

Following the President, Rishon Lezion, HaRav Shlomo Moshe Amar, Chief Sefardi Rabbi of Yerushalayim gave divre bracha. 

The first panel was moderated by journalist Yair Shereki, and included Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tzipi Hotovely, MK Aliza Lavi, Simcha Roitman, Shimon Riklin, and Erez Tamor.

The Jerusalem Conference began with a gala concert on Sunday night and continues for a full day on Tuesday. Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat scheduled to be honored dignitaries in the morning, with Yaakov (Ketzeleh) Katz, Head of management of Arutz Sheva,  giving opening remarks.
