After the widespread celebrations held to celebrate his freedom from his harsh sentence of 27 years, Rubashkin took the time to personally visit Chassidishe Rebbes in the New York area.
His first visit was to the Skverer Rebbe, R' David Twersky, in New Square, where a large crowd of chassidim waited for him outside. Upon the conclusion of the warm meeting, they danced and handed him a microphone to give short remarks.

Rubashkin told the Satmar Rebbe in detail about what transpired after he was released and that he did not need a change of clothing, sharing what his wife Leah Rubashkin said in an interview before the commutation.
"In our car we consistently have the clothing of my husband - a hat, white shirt and kapota," Mrs. Rubashkin told an Israeli publication last month. "I am always ready and prepared to get the call that he is being released this moment. We are on high alert and believe it can happen any moment.
"We were a nice family that was living a nice life. My husband ran a slaughterhouse in Postville in Iowa, everything was going smoothly. Then one dark day, everything ended. My dear husband was convicted and the American authorities decided to sentence him to 27 years in prison," she said.
She said that while the difficulty and pain was a daily feeling, "we know that we have to believe and live in faith that at any moment, Hashem could change the situation."
The Satmar Rebbe expressed the zchus that Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin has for bringing out such tremendous achdus and Ahavas Yisroel among Jewish people.
