Yeshiva University in Israel sponsored a lecture by Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter, Professor of Jewish History and Thought at Yeshiva University, on Sunday evening in Jerusalem, Israel.

Jerusalem weather turned cold and wet, as the lecture time approached, but Nitzanim Synagogue filled up quickly with a diverse audience.

Rabbi Dr. Schacter served as dean of the Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik Institute in Boston, and as rabbi of the Maimonides Minyan in Brookline, MA. He was the first rabbi of the Young Israel of Sharon, MA, from 1977 to 1981. From 1981 to 2000, he served as the rabbi of the Jewish Center in New York City.

Rabbi Schacter holds a PhD in Near Eastern languages from Harvard University and received rabbinic ordination from Mesivta Torah Vodaath. Presently, he serves as a member of the faculty of the Wexner Foundation and the Wexner Heritage Foundation.

Rabbi Schacter shared his remembrances of the euphoria of June 1967 in Jerusalem. With scholarly research into responses of gedolim in the years that followed, the English presentation with Hebrew source sheets, was appreciated by those who braved the weather.
