Baltimore, MD - Dec. 22, 2017 - On Tuesday evening, December 19th, the 8th night of Chanukah, cars, pickup trucks and minivans adorned with Menorahs attached to the top of their vehicles, departed from parking lot of Cheder Chabad, for “a parade of lights”, the Annual Chanukah “Menorah Car Parade”.

This tradition, started by Chabad of Park Heights, is now a regular event to recognize Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, and is a fun and exciting event for the entire family. With joyous Chanukah music blaring from their speakers, more than fifty “Menorah Cars” wound their way through this year’s expanded route, passing through Park Heights and the North West Community, lighting up the night in Baltimore. They were escorted by Baltimore City Police Motor Unit’s cars and motorcycles with their lights flashing, as well as Foxtrot’s helicopter air coverage.

Many people excitedly came out of their homes to watch and wave as the spectacular parade passed their homes. At approximately 7:20 p.m., the parade returned to Cheder Chabad, where donuts and music greeted the crowd and the outdoor lighting of the menorah took place.

Rabbi Avrohom Wolowik, Executive Director of Cheder Chabad, thanked Rabbi Chesky Tenenbaum, director of the Jewish Uniformed Services Association, for his efforts to arrange the event. He then introduced Baltimore City Councilman Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer, who was on hand to light the Menorah, and thanked him for his tremendous efforts on behalf of the Baltimore Jewish Community. Councilman Schleifer recited the brachos and climbed a ladder to ignite the menorah with a blowtorch, lighting all 8 lights to mark Chanukah’s final night. The event concluded with joyous singing and dancing.
