Baltimore, MD - Nov. 29, 2017 - I would like to thank those who took time to contact me with your concerns about the safety of the area. Please rest assured that my top priority is public safety. I will and have worked with several different units within the County Police Department to address the needs of our community. Additionally, our precinct enjoys an excellent working relationship with our counterparts in Baltimore City. I communicate with Baltimore City Police commanders and supervisors from the Northwestern District on a regular basis about issues that affect the City and County, along our borders. Detectives assigned specifically to Pikesville Precinct often coordinate their efforts with Baltimore City Police detectives in order to solve crime trends that often cross the City/County line. Technological advances in both departments allows the real-time sharing of information between both agencies during emergencies. I expect that the relationship between our Precinct and the Northwestern District will continue to grow for many years to come.

As to the recent crimes in the Pikesville area, there was one carjacking recently. A night-time burglary which occurred along the Smith Avenue corridor has been solved by burglary detectives from our Criminal Investigations Bureau. We have also received calls for unlocked vehicles, with the keys left inside, being stolen from the area.

While I wouldn’t want anyone to feel afraid in their own neighborhood, I would suggest to everyone, regardless of where they live, to always be vigilant and aware of their surroundings.  If you see something suspicious, please call 911 immediately so that the situation can be investigated.

The Baltimore County Police Department does offer numerous resources to our citizens. If you are a County resident, our Community Outreach Team can conduct a free security survey of your home. An officer will come to your home, conduct an assessment, and provide you with security advice to help keep your home and family safe. The Outreach Team can be reached at 410-887-6775.

Finally, our monthly Pikesville Police-Community Relations Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19th at 7 pm at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation. Precinct personnel will be in attendance to discuss recent crime and answer any questions you may have about our deployment strategies.

Thank you again,

Captain Michael A. Cortes III

Commander, Precinct 4 (Pikesville)
