Over 100 residents of northwest Baltimore came together on Sunday, November 19 for CHAI’s Bi-Annual Good Neighbor Day. An agency of The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, CHAI: Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. partnered with The Associated’s program, Jewish Volunteer Connection (JVC) for outreach and registration.

Baltimore, MD - Nov. 22, 2017 - The community service day was split into two activities for volunteers to choose which actions fit their schedules and interests best. The morning teams met at Weinberg Manor South to receive supplies that helped them winterize the homes of CHAI’s Senior Home Repair participants, among others. In addition to winterizing windows, volunteers assisted with yard care and much-appreciated social connecting with the homeowners.  Many older adult residents of northwest Baltimore were served.

Maryland State Delegate, Shelly Hettleman was on hand to volunteer and said, “CHAI Good Neighbor Day is such a win-win activity -- for the helper and the helpee. We got to provide a service to someone (helping to winterize her home) AND I felt good knowing that we were helping someone who really needed it.”

The afternoon teams met at Cross Country Elementary Middle School and worked together to clean up Western Run stream.  The teams consisted of members of the Glen Community Improvement Association, students and staff from Cross Country Elementary Middle School, students from Pikesville High School, and Boy Scout troop 1299, along with several of the CHAI staff’s families.

Congressman, John Sarbanes volunteered in the afternoon and remarked, "Good Neighbor Day was another terrific example of CHAI's lasting commitment to strengthening Baltimore communities. I was pleased to participate and look forward to working with CHAI in the future on similar endeavors.”

Whole Foods of Mt. Washington donated the water for the day’s event.
