Jerusalem, Israel - Oct. 25, 2017 - Aliyah Day, the 7th of Marchesvan, was marked by Knesset in 2016, as an official holiday to honor contributions of immigrants to the development of Israel.

The second Aliyah Day official celebrations included an event in the Knesset on Tuesday, and an event at the Jerusalem International Conference Center on Wednesday evening, with food, entertainment, and awards to three outstanding immigrants. Defense Minster Avigdor Liberman spoke in Hebrew with a short greeting in Russian first.

One of the honorees, Olah of the year, Dr Charles Sprung, made aliyah from the United States.

Minister of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption, MK Sofa Landver presented the awards.

According to Landver, "The mission of aliyah is a national mission, that falls not just to the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption, but upon the entire Jewish People.  Almost every Israeli citizen is an immigrant or the son or daughter of an immigrant, the first, second, or third generation in Israel, therefore this day is a holiday for all of Israel because we are all new immigrants.  Chag Sameach to all of Israel!"

The audience came from all over Israel. Buses were lined up outside the conference center to transport them back to their homes after a youth choir led the singing of Hatikvah.
