Houston, TX - Sept. 1, 2017 - Below is an update from one of the main volunteers in the heart of the Houston Jewish community on the many requests-to-help from all over the US::

"Just an update as I didn't personally answer some of the PM's I have gotten in the last bunch of hours but this should cover it.

Although the situation on the ground is devastating, leaving many people decimated and broken, the community has really come together from all sides.  From the Kollel, to Young Israel, UOS, Meyerland, Chabad, JCC, Federation and many others, communication has really started to click and flow in a productive and smooth fashion

BH power is on in 95% of the communities which is certainly allowing for a more rapid ability to begin the cleanup process. Although some of the properties and outer roadways still have significant and serious flooding, the water in and around the homes and streets have receded.

At this point please do not initiate or send any items or trucks to Houston whatsoever. We simply do not want it to go to waste.

Furthermore if you know someone who is planning this, please implore them to communicate with one email address ONLY which is houstonrelief@ou.org which Rabbi Posy and several of us have access to and we can then make sure that before any offer heads here, it is cross-referenced with actual needs on the ground. This unified group will review the data daily to assess the offers and needs.

If any Chaveirm groups etc. (some are already here) want to head down please be in touch so we can just make sure they will have what/and where to go when they arrive.

As far as volunteers for cleanup, David Kushner graciously offered to compile a list so please be in touch with him for manpower volunteer offers. We will make sure you have what/where to clean.

If anyone has any specific questions, feel free to PM me and we will try to get you real and concrete answers in a timely fashion which will be truly representative of all the parties in the Houston Jewish Community.

If I missed anything I apologize in advance."
